Foundation & Museum

COFOS Foundation

The tree collection of the Tenaxx Arboretum Estate is managed by the Oudemans van Straaten Family Collections Foundation (COFOS). The COFOS Foundation has a cultural ANBI status. The COFOS Foundation aims to preserve, manage, and present the collections of the Oudemans-van Straaten family, as well as everything related to or conducive to the above in the broadest sense.

Dinosaur Museum

The tree collection of the Tenaxx Estate is part of the Dinosaurium Museum. The Dinosaurium has two sections:

The Indoor Museum, which displays the collection of (replicas of) fossils and lifelike models of dinosaurs and saurians from the Mesozoic (Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous) and older (replicas of) fossils in the museum building. The Indoor Museum is an interactive children's museum with dinosaur models, skeletons, and fossils that highlight the co-evolution between plants and animals.

The Outdoor Museum, the tree collection of the Tenaxx Estate arboretum. The arboretum showcases, among other things, the story of tree evolution and the co-evolution of trees and dinosaurs.

Mission & goals

  • Management, conservation and presentation of the tree and fossil collections.

  • Education on evolution, biodiversity, variation and selection, and the relationship between humans and nature.

  • Research and documentation, including collection lists and provenance data.

  • Public access via walking routes and digital information.

  • Collaboration with growers and other aboreta (e.g., Kew Gardens).

Collaborations

The construction and expansion were made possible in part by specialists and partners, such as Nico Schellevis (Pinetum Blijdenstein), growers Chris van der Wurff and Henk van Kempen, and collaboration with Kew Gardens (Rafael Govaerts, Plants of the World Online).
